JB Kaval Tree park is the abbreviation of Jarakabande Kaval Tree park, developed in 32 hectares of the land area belonging to Jarakabande “B'” Block Reserve Forest in the year 2015. Now open for the public, with no entry fees, updated on 15-January-2021, perhaps this is the only reserve park that allows public entry in Bengaluru.
Since JB Kaval Tree park is only 9 km from our office, we as a team of 4 members tried to explore this place and what we saw was just amazing, that Bengaluru still holds this secret patch of Forest. The Key information which we learned about the J B Kaval Tree park was that the Jarakabande Reserve Forest named after the Village of Jarakabande Grama, surrounded by Avalahalli Village and Ramagondanahalli village, in Yelahanka Taluk of Bengaluru North, it is totally a land area of over 1500 acres divided into “A” block and “B” block Reserve forest, Further “A” Blockhouses “Byalkere peacock Reserve”, Jarakabande Forest research Station, and a reserve forest, whereas in “B” Block, JB Kaval Tree park, and JB Kaval Butterfly garden is developed in the year 2015 CE. JB Kaval Tree park is around 60-acre land carved out of Jarakabande “B” Block reserve forest, where 89 species of trees planted between 1985 to present, some of the noteworthy trees here are Jackfruit trees, Hill goose trees, Burflower-trees(locally in Kannada it is called Kadamba) it is the Karnataka’s State Tree, Belliric Myrobalan( Beach Almond) trees, Indian Beech trees (Millettia Pinnata), Red sanders trees (Pterocarpus santalinus), Eucalyptus Trees, Teak trees, Indian Butter trees,(Honey Tree -Madhuca Indica) and Many more.

Apart from Trees, there are many herbs and shrubs in JB Kaval Tree Park that can be found are, including Senna auriculata (Thangadi Soppu in Kannada), Adhatoda vasica, Aloe Vera, Brahmi, Hibiscus rosa-Sinensis, Long pepper, Tinospora cordifolia, or Moon Creeper and many more can also be found here.

- JB kaval Tree park is developed in the natural forest of Jarakabande reserve forest area, so there are quite good numbers of Anthills and Many types of Snakes are there so do not enter into the bushy area.

This was established in the year 1896 CE, through notification number, 13001-L.F.257-92 – 1896-06-02. This is the only Reserve Forest in Bangalore which allows to Public to enter the Reserve Forest and you can enjoy the beauty.
3. Jarakabande Sandal Reserve Forest, located at Jalahalli.
Jarakabande Sandal Reserve Forest also called Jarakabande Kaval Srigandha Aranya, established through Gazette Notification (No G:1053 Ft 42-32-2, Dated: 10th August-1932 CE) in an area of little over 444 acres. Location (13.06306, 77.53528) Jarkabandi Forest Road, Jalahalli, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560015. Please note that the public is not allowed to enter here, anyhow Sandal trees can be seen from the outside fence.

JB Kaval butterfly park:
Butterflies are beautiful flying insects with large scaly wings covered by tiny sensory hairs, the earliest butterfly fossils are about 130 million years old, with a life span of 2 days to 11 months.
Diversity of Butterflies is over 18000 species in the world, over 1200 in India and 318 in Karnataka you can find at least 200 of them at this JB kaval Butterfly park, Karnataka’s State Butterfly, Southern birdwing can also be found here.

Peacocks and Peahens at Jarakabande “B” Block Reserve Forest (Avalahalli Reserve Forest):
Peafowl, (both Peacock and Peahen together called peafowl), related to chicken, and in many ways, they are like the basic barnyard birds you may be used to. For example, peafowl eats just about anything they can scratch, from seeds and other plant parts to insects and spiders. they sometimes even catch bigger creatures including lizards and frogs. they hang out mostly on the ground. But they always flap away from danger up into a tree for the night to sleep.

The JB Kaval Reserve Forest is a natural forest, with a walkway you can scroll down watching birds, Anthills, Birds, and observing the herbs and shrubs like Carissa carandas (Kare Hannu in Kannada), Senna auriculata (thangadi soppu in Kannada), many more.

At JB Kaval Reserve Forest, the roads are tailor-made for Mountain biking, this can be enjoyed here, the road leading towards sunset viewpoint has the ideal road terrain for it.

Once you enter the JB Kaval Tree park and trek towards the Sunset viewpoint at Avalahalli State Reserve forest it the most beautiful part, the eucalyptus trees with a panoramic view and sunset remind me of Ooty, this place is like “Ooty Wilson Plantation”.
